Why the description must support the claims
Patent laws require the description to disclose the invention clearly and completely enough to be carried out, and to support what is claimed. In the United States this requirement is in 35 U.S.C. 112(a); for international applications, PCT Rule 5 sets the content of the description. Features that are claimed but not described, or described only vaguely, are a frequent source of objections.
